When in Love, Tea-juvenate- 20 Love Quotes We Love

Mark Twain once famously said, “It does a fool well to memorize a book of quotes.” This Valentine’s Day, when you’re feeling like a Fool in Love, here are some inspirational quotes you can scribble into that heart-shaped card, from the poetic people who said it best! “The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart.” –Helen Keller “To love is nothing. To be loved is something. But to love and be loved, that’s everything.” –T. Tollis “I saw that you were perfect, and so I loved you. Then I saw that you were not perfect, and I loved you even more.” -Angelita Lim “As if you were on fire from within / The moon lives in the lining of your skin” –Pablo Neruda “I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow.” –Leo Christopher “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” –A.A. Milne “I would rather spend one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone.” –J.R.R. Tolkein, The Lord of the Rings “I choose you. And I’ll choose you over and over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat. I’ll keep choosing you.” –Unknown “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” –When Harry Met Sally “Thinking of you... read more

Beauty and the Blizzard

Cooped Up? “Snow” Problem!: 4 Beauty Treatments to Make a Blizzard Bearable   So, the snow is coming down, there’s not a plow in sight, and you’re more than just a little bit stranded. Our first impulse is to groan and dream of happier times sipping margaritas on our sunny back decks, but the power of positive thinking can do wonders, in my experience, and being trapped doesn’t have to be a bad thing! I’ve compiled a list of relaxing, beauty-related ways to make being snowed in a treat rather than a trial, all using things you’re most likely to have around the house without needing a trip to the store. Try some out and you might even feel a little sorry when you hear that plow rumbling down your neighborhood street! DIY Facial Scrub A facial scrub is a wonderful, inexpensive way to make yourself feel beautiful in a pinch. You can make a fantastic scrub from a few simple ingredients you’ll undoubtedly have lying around the house, even in the midst of a blizzard. Here is my favorite recipe that’ll leave your face glowing, exfoliated, and as soft as a baby’s: DIY Raw Honey Facial  1 1/2 tbs raw honey 1 1/2 tbsp. sugar   Mix ingredients to form a thick paste and apply to entire face, avoiding the eyes.  Gently, without applying any pressure, massage in circular motion for 2 min.  After massaging, let the paste sit for 20-30 min to do its magic, then rinse off for brighter, softer skin.   I love this recipe because it hydrates, exfoliates, refines pores, and honey is antimicrobial. ... read more

Cleanse Into the New Year

Cleanse Into the New Year

This year, my challenge for 2016 will be to make resolutions that focus on the long-term, the “bigger” picture. Every year, we resolve to make a change for the better—eat more veggies, drink more water, exercise every day. These are all great ideas, but often the actual focus of these resolutions is, what I like to call, “commercial” beauty. Eat more veggies….to reduce my inner thigh gap. Drink more water…to get rid of belly bloat. Exercise more…to tone my bingo arms. Good habits, weak motivations. These goals are more likely to feed into the idea that, unless you achieve them, you are ugly or wanting.   Coco Chanel once said, “Beauty begins when you decide to be yourself.” This quote is incredibly wise, especially when the ultimate focus of your determination is to make “yourself” as good a person as possible—on the inside—in your mind, your spirit, and heart. I’m definitely not belittling physical exercise. I’m an avid health and fitness freak, and it’s a scientific fact that physical exercise gives people clarity and makes them happier. But I do believe that, no matter what your New Year’s resolution is, it should focus on a greater purpose than just looking good. Drink more water…to keep my body clean and healthy. Eat more veggies…to show my daughter that health is beautiful. Exercise more…to live longer and have the energy I need to give back to my community. These resolutions don’t even have to be personally physical. We can read more books, meditate more, teach someone to read, make meals for the homeless, visit a home for the elderly. These goals... read more
